France: Protesters take to Paris streets against health pass

Protesters in Paris marched from Convention Metropolitain station to National Assembly against the so-called health pass, on Wednesday.
Hundreds of people including members of the Yellow Vests joined the protests to express their outrage with the pass, with some even comparing the measure to a 'dictatorship' or 'apartheid.'
On Saturday, some protesters wore yellow stars recalling the ones the Nazis forced Jews to wear during World War II, prompting officials and anti-racism groups to express indignation and French government spokesperson Gabriel Attal to condemn the 'absolutely abject comparisons.'
Starting from Wednesday people will need to either show a certificate of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to go to cinemas, museums, sporting matches and other cultural venues in France.
The requirements will expand to bars, restaurants, hospitals and long-distance travel by train in August, while PCR tests will no longer be free starting from autumn unless prescribed by a doctor.
The reform comes in response to the rising number of COVID cases in France and the highly contagious Delta variant. The incidence rates now exceed the warning level of 50 per 100,000 people in Paris, and in the southern and western part of the country.
