What Does the 'Tannoy' Name Mean? - Elliott Randall on Tannoy Monitors
Did you know what the word 'Tannoy' has come to mean in Britain? Legendary guitarist Elliott Randall reveals this and also why he loves the Tannoy Studio Reveal 802s
Elliott loves his Tannoy Studio Reveal 802s, which he uses in his personal studio. You can see him speak about these here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNgqwNmdLh4 The custom 8" woofer and 1” tweeter tell you exactly what is going on in your mix through the finely tuned active crossover filter. Combine this with a new 100 watt bi-amp module and you get rock-solid bass at any volume.
Elliott also mentions the Tannoy Golds; these groundbreaking monitors broke into the audio world almost 50 years ago.
The Monitor Gold (and many other Tannoy speakers) used “Dual Concentric” technology. This is a very different approach to standard monitor technology, one first introduced by Tannoy. A tweeter is mounted at the center of the bass unit so that the two work in total harmony to create an unparalleled listening experience. The Golds were created for use in radio and recording studios in 1967 but were soon adopted by audio enthusiasts around the world.

Tannoy Studio
Making Monitors for Musicians is part of Tannoy’s DNA and that’s why musicians worldwide have timelessly turned to Tannoy when it comes to monitoring their music.
Tannoy is one of the oldest and most prestigious audio brands in the world. Having been founded as the Tulsemere Manufacturing Company back in 1926 and with a presence in the audio industry of almost a century, the brand has a rich history that is ingrained into every loudspeaker it produces. What does the 'Tannoy' name mean? As Elliott explains above, it has come to be associated with quality monitors; the name itself originates from a solid-state rectifier invented by company founder, Guy Fountain, made from an alloy or mixture of Tantalum and Lead.
