Mark Holcomb’s limited edition PRS pushes the infamous Custom 24 into totally new areas. It’s like a Custom 24 that’s been given a full shred makeover. The first thing you’ll notice is the feel. It has that unmistakable PRS slinkiness, but with a slightly roomier, tauter feel that’s perfect for the craziest fretwork you can muster. Tonally, PRS’s distinct clarity and bell-like resonance are alive and well, but the low end is a little tighter and the upper mids/highs have a way of slicing right through the mix. Throw any amount of gain at these pickups – they’ll retain structure, dimension and all of that expressive harmonic juiciness, no matter the volume. This axe is decked out with a lot of features that haven’t been seen on a Custom 24 yet. It’s a perfect instrument for anyone who wants PRS quality in a shred-ready package.
This Custom 24 is built with the shredder and metalhead in mind. First off, the scale is 25.5”, a tad longer than your typical Custom 24. This provides a little extra room for your fingers in the upper register, and it also helps keep that low end nice and tight - especially if you’ll be tuning down. At 20”, the radius has been flattened out a bit, making for easier bends and vibratos all over the neck. The bridge, a PRS string-thru-body design, is a Custom 24 first as well. The pickups are Mark Holcomb’s signature Seymour Duncan “Alpha and Omega” humbuckers, which are articulate, well balanced and hot. The satin finish on the body and Pattern Thin neck doesn’t leave fingerprints and feels great, especially during long playing sessions when you might sweat on it. Throw in a quilted maple 10 top, and you’ve got a guitar firmly routed in the PRS tradition but strikingly different than what’s come before it. Ships in drop C tuning but won’t mind getting set up for standard.
