River Falls & Eastern in Action!!

The River Falls and Eastern Railway Company is a regional railroad interchanging freight between the Baltimore & Ohio and Chesapeake & Ohio, with branch lines connecting with the Kanawha Central (NYC) and Western Maryland. The RF&E is a bridge route handling substantial overhead traffic, while still operating locals, road and yard transfers, and also yard jobs servicing customers along this line. The RF&E services several mines that produce coal and coke within this region, while also handling switching duties at mining communities between Clarksburg, WV. and Staunton VA. One major local yard is located at Robertstown, WV., where connections are made with locals and other road trains. Another busy yard on this system is located at Homecrest, WV., where major industrial switching is handled. The small yard located at Valley View,WV., where switching handled by the Kanawha Central (NYC) and the Baltimore & Ohio keeping this mine running to capacity.
The River Falls and Eastern is a double stacked layout that was built by Larry Hickman. Larry a retired railroader hiring out with the PRR and retiring with CSX. His goals with the RF&E was to show people how a railroad operates using prototype procedures, while servicing the industries and operating trains over this road. His monthly operating session during the late fall, winter, and spring months involves friends and fellow railroaders getting together to operate this layout. His locomotives have been speed step to operate at a scale 30mph on the road, while yard engines are set at 15mph. The layout is set in the late 1950's and detailed down just to what you would see in real life.

Thanks for watching as I followed various trains over this unique railroad.
