The Jack Spector Show, 1960 - The Theme From “A Summer Place”, Percy Faith & His Orchestra

Dick Clark has mentioned that American Bandstand inspired over a hundred local dance shows around the country in the 50’s and 60’s. Here is a clip of one those local teen dance shows from Providence, Rhode Island. (from a time when there are no known clips of American Bandstand)

Here, the kids dance to the #1 song of the year, 1960, and the #1 instrumental of all time, the theme from the 1959 movie, “A Summer Place”.

…..And the host, Jack Spector, left the show in 1961 to become one of the original members of the DJ team known as “The Good Guys” on New York’s famous, top 40 radio station WMCA. Jack stayed in radio long after WMCA went off the air. While doing a broadcast in 1994, the airwaves went silent after the song he was playing, “I’m In The Mood For Love”, completed. The station crew found that Jack had died of a heart attack while on the air. Talk about dedication!

Airdate: March 1960
