“He’s very versatile. He can play down. He can play the post. Oregon played him as more of the Tampa middle-read player which showcased his playmaking ability. He has a nose for the ball. When the ball is in the air, he has fantastic acceleration to get to the catch point and when he gets there, he arrives with violent intentions.”

“He’s a very impressive young man. Obviously, going to Stanford and taking education seriously like he has, he’s very bright. I don’t think he’ll have any problem picking up the details that we like to play with. We were fortunate to get [a tight end] one that we are excited about.
The more you can look to attack the defense, the flexibility that tight ends give you gives you another dimension to your offense. Looking forward to his future.”

Ben Johnson On Logan Jones:
“I’m extremely impressed by his football knowledge, make-up, he’s very mature. We aren’t getting a rookie, we are getting more of a seasoned player, which isn’t uncommon for Iowa linemen. The ball is in his court [on how quickly he can play]. We’re looking to create competition.”

“I think for him and all of our defensive backs, it’s one of the better situations that you could ask for [playing under Al Harris]. I think the world of Al. We were very fortunate to get him back. He’s a great teacher. He’s very systematic about the process and has very good building blocks for young players.”

“He’s one of the guys we identified well before the draft. He’s a player we really liked. Quick story about him: Our guys do a good job trying to recruit guys that could slip through the cracks in the draft. I called him before the draft and let him know we had a vision for him. When you take a tight end in the 3rd round, you start thinking ‘shoot, that might take us away from him coming here.’ He didn’t bat an eye. This is where he wanted to be. To me, that speaks volumes of how he’s wired. Walk-on at Iowa and earned playing time after a long, hard road. I appreciate that.”
