Like a Bomb Went Off: What a Disintegrated Stream Taught Us About Stormwater Management

The Marcy Gulch watershed in Highlands Ranch developed rapidly in the 1990s. It was assumed at the time that regional detention basins would mitigate any impacts to the stability of March Gulch. The sandy and erosive soils along Marcy Gulch quickly degraded as the watershed urbanized. Observations from Marcy Gulch provide lessons in sediment transport, hydrology, and stormwater management. This presentation was recorded during the Mile High Flood District Annual Symposium on July 21st, 2021.
