WaterAid is transforming into a rights based organisation and it has specific goal to reach the most vulnerable and marginalised groups of the country. Sex workers are one of the most deprived communities in the country in consideration of their living standard. They earn a fare amount of money, but could hardly spend those for their own betterment. Sex workers live in a very crowded place, leaving any chance behind to enjoy a healthy well being. They have to entertain the customers very frequently and there are not enough scope for proper cleaning and enjoying even a fresh bath! There are around 69 latrines and tube wells but are not always properly maintained. There are tube wells affected by iron water and latrines are very rarely hygienic. Waste management is a main concern for the sex workers. They pointed out many health hazards may caused by improper WaSH facilities.
WaterAid through its Inclusion programme have decided to work with the sex workers for enhancing their WaSH services as a whole. WaterAid believes community involvement is mandatory to achieve any programme objectives. This video portrays the WaSH situation of the brothel where WaterAid and its partner PSTC has recently started working.
