this is another video about a paper by Patrick Shumacher and the architecture philosophies of Zaha Hadid Architects studio.
Patrick explains how architecture was always influenced and guided by nature
The tools of the architects in the previous centuries did not allow them to fully exploit this idea
In the classical era, the era architects relied on the body as a whole organism. Where symmetry and proportions were wholly.
Then came the Modern age where industrialization broke the age old traditions and more experimentation . Surrealism , cubism and so on all investigated in asymmetrical compositions .
Other styles such as deconstructionism and post- modernism pushed the envelop even further.
With Parametric design and the computational powers at their hands, architects started to simulate the forces behind the creation and genetics of organisms
With the concept of bio-mimetic, engineers made several breakthroughs through the imitation of the laws of nature.
Gaudi build his Sagrada Familia with a physical model and Frei Otto discovered shapes in soap formations.
Architecture as a tool to solve social functions, so Geo- Morphism and the scale it operates at is more familiar to the scale of the architectural context.
Please watch this video to fully grasp these ideas and let us know what do you think in the comments section below
