Lambing On Pasture - Dorper Sheep Birth Caught on Film
We have a new lamb on the farm! This is a new dorper lamb that was born today. She is the ewe lamb of a first time mom and doing great.
Our sheep are raised on pasture and rotated from paddock to paddock. We weren't sure if this ewe was even pregnant.
Dorper sheep are easy to care for, require low inputs and thrive on pasture. They produce excellent meat and are a hardy animal that does not require sheering. Dorpers are known as a hair sheep.
This is our first year raising grass fed sheep on pasture and using a rotational grazing method which is part of a wholistic farming approach. We keep the sheep in a paddock for a period of time before rotating them onto a fresh piece of ground. The sheep are moved regularly to mimic the natural mobbing, moving and mowing found in nature as part of natural ruminant behavior. We strive to be chemical, antibiotic and input free as we practice organic and beyond organic practices.
Sheraton Park Farms practices holistic, sustainable farming and soil building using a rotational grazing model as we try to grow more grass on our farm.
