Experiment to hear the effect of a dipole electrostatic loudspeaker. The Quad ESL57 is very directional due to its 'figure of 8' response typical of a dipole. When placed outside this effect can be clearly heard. Note the loudness of the music when heard at 90 degrees to the speaker compared with being out in front. This experiment carried outside in a large yard. The ESL57 beaming characteristic makes it useful for long throw applications without needing a horn.
