Emirates' A380s to Prague

On December 1, the Middle East giant will resume using the double-decker quadjet to Czechia's capital. It last saw the type four and a half years ago, in March 2020.

As the schedule on December 1 is different from the rest of the month, the usual offering is provided below, with all times local:

Dubai-Prague: EK139, 08:40-12:30

Prague-Dubai: EK140, 14:45-23:40

Emirates will deploy its non-first-class, two-class, 615-seat configuration to Prague for the first time. This is one of seven layouts of the subfleet.

Its 615-seaters have 557 seats in economy, more than the total seats on its six other configurations. The celebratory photo below is not of a 615-seater. It was taken when the carrier last flew to the city.

A summary of Emirates in Prague
According to Cirum Diio data, Emirates has served Prague since July 2010, when a daily flight operated from the first day. The A330-200 was initially flown, replaced by the Boeing 777-200/200ER and 777-300 (non-ER) in January 2012. While the 777-300ER sometimes appeared, it became a full 777-300ER operation in May 2014.

After a one-off A380 service on July 1, 2015 (see the following video), the double-decker was flown daily to Prague between May 2016 and March 2020. The pandemic meant the 777-300ER returned in March 2020.

Switching from the current 777-300ER to the 615-seat A380 means the number of seats for sale will rise by 510 (+71%) daily. That is a significant additional volume to fill each day.

Emirates has nearly always served Prague daily. However, in some months in 2018/2019, a double daily operation existed when the A380 and 777-300ER/777-200LR were deployed.

Emirates' sibling, flydubai, serves Prague daily on the 737 MAX 8. It operates to/from Dubai's Terminal 3, Emirates' terminal, facilitating connectivity. flydubai operates overnight from Prague and gets back at 07:10+1. It arrives during the second-largest European arrival bank for Emirates. Meanwhile, Czechia's Smartwings serves Prague daily.

Where Prague passengers go
In the year to July 2024, Prague-Dubai had around 136,000 roundtrip point-to-point passengers (non-stop and indirect passengers across all airlines). In this sense, it was Dubai's 20th most popular European market. Booking data suggests that Emirates (and flydubai) transported around 63% of the traffic.

Naturally, a significant number of Emirates passengers (~180,000) connected to another flight in Dubai. Vietnam was the most popular country market due to the large diaspora (perhaps as many as 80,000 people). India, Australia, Thailand, the Maldives, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Japan, and Hong Kong followed.

Prague-Hanoi was comfortably the top airport-level origin and destination. Malé was next, then Bangkok, Seoul (Korean Air operates non-stop), Taipei (China Airlines operates non-stop), Mauritius, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Denpasar Bali, and Colombo.
