Let's start with who Cyrus was in the Bible. In Isaiah 45:1 (NIV), we read:
"This is what the Lord says to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor."

Some key points about Cyrus:
1. He was a pagan king
2. God called him "anointed" (messiah in Hebrew)
3. He freed the Jewish people from Babylonian captivity
4. He supported rebuilding the Temple in Jerusalem

The Message Bible puts it this way in Isaiah 45 4 through 5:
"I'm naming you personally, calling you by name, even though you don't know me. I am God, the only God there is. Besides me there are no real gods."
