Caracalla ruled the Roman Empire from 211 to 217 CE. After securing power through the killing of his brother Geta, he became known for ruthless purges and political violence. Yet he also issued the Constitutio Antoniniana, extending Roman citizenship to nearly all free inhabitants of the empire.
