First start of a Cessna 172 in over 13 years

The Masters Mission Alaska purchased a neglected Cessna 172 that had been sitting on the ramp at the Nenana Municipal Airport untouched for over 13 years. The aircraft had been tied up in a legal dispute, and had just recently became available.

Although the plane was in excellent condition when it was parked, over a decade of exposure to the harsh interior Alaskan winters had taken its toll. Someone had stolen the fuel, and left the caps off, allowing water to enter the fuel system. The water froze and damaged a number of the components.

After replacing the damaged fuel lines and carburetor, and replacing the broken strainer bowl, it was time to see if it would run.
