The Mordvins. Part 1
Mordovia is a small Russian republic located 600 kilometers south-east of Moscow. Today the Mordvins are a part of the Finno-Ugric people scattered over half of Europe, but they value their traditions very much. Pagan symbols are everywhere, and the girls are taught embroidery from early childhood. This documentary features world famous Mordvin sportsmen such as an Olympic champion in race walking Olga Kaniskina and a former WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev, as well as the art of making felt boots, a traditional Mordovian wedding and a contemporary ethnic band that combines indigenous folk music with modern jazz compositions.
