Xiaomi Mi WiFi 3 Router Unboxing, Teardown, solder Serial Console and re-assemble

In this video we will unbox and teardown Xiaomi Mi WiFi Router Gen 3
We will also solder serial console interface and take a look at Xiaomi boot log
Xiaomi Mi WiFi Dual-band Wireless Router 3 comes with the latest 802.11ac WiFi technology which is 3 times faster than wireless N
Data transfer rate of up to 1167Mbps with 867Mbps wireless speeds over the 5GHz band and 300Mbps over the 2.4GHz band
Xiaomi router is equiped with MT7620A processor, 128MB SLC Nand Flash ROM, 128MB DDR2 RAM
It has four 5dBi, 6dBi external antennas for faster wireless performance at greater distances up to 100m
There are 2 x 100Mbps LAN Ports and 1 USB
Very good look and feel
Software and documents are all Chinese, in next video, we will find the way to flash English version or try open systems such as OpenWrt

12V power supply
First step of the teardown is to open router case. There is 1 screw under it stamp
To open the case, we need some plastic tools such as old credit card to open latches
Case is open now, and we can see inside
Xiaomi WiFi router 3 use MediaTek MT7612EN for 5GHz wireless
RAM chip is EtronTech EM68C16CWQD-25H DDR DRAM which is 128MB
We will disconnect antenna pigtail cable to get the board out
Now we open heat sink and see the CPU chip
It is sticked to the CPU with some soft glue
To see the CPU, I will use some aceston to clean the glue
Now we can see main CPU MediaTek MT7620 using to power 2.4GHz WiFi
We will re-apply heatsink, this will increase router stabilization
I will also solder serial console to connect this WiFi router to computer using USB-TTL module
Serial console inteface is marked 3.3v, Gnd, Rx, Tx so we can solder 3 PINs to it
We use only Gnd, Rx and Tx, leave 3.3V unconnected
I will use tape to fix the PINs so it is easy to solder from the other side
Now we connect router serial console interface to USB-TTL module Gnd-Gnd, Rx-Tx and Tx-Rx
Now we can connect to router using hyper terminal and see its boot log
Now we will teardown Xiaomi WiFi router 3 antennas
We will open one 2.4GHz and one 5GHz antenna to see their internal elements
Those latches are hard but openable
Now we can use small flat screw driver to open the 5GHz antenna
Now we will open 2.4GHz antenna
The two antennas are torndown, now we can have a closer look at their elements
Finally, we will re-assembly the router
Put antenna elements in
Plug those antennas back to the case
Put router board in the case and secure with 2 screws the connect 4 pig tail cables, grey for 2.4GHz and black for 5GHz
Push back case and you can hear click from latches, then secure the screw
