AFRICAN PENGUIN - BOULDERS BEACH - SIMONS TOWN

The African penguin also known as the Black-footed or Jackass penguin, is found on the south-western coast of Africa. They are call like this because of their donkey-like braying call. Over 2000 stay at Boulders beach near Simons Town. Boulders Beach is a tourist attraction for the beach, swimming and the penguins. The penguins will allow people to approach them as close as a meter
From just 2 breeding pairs in 1982, the penguin colony has grown to over 2000. Over 60 penguins died from bee stings during September 2021.
