Most of this channel’s background music is improvised by OpenAI’s MuseNet

As I have more video ideas, I thought that it would be cool if each video has a unique background music but with the same theme. So I made a short 7-second piano clip and let MuseNet improvise from there.

Each time, MuseNet generates 4 short continuations of the piece. I pick the one that I like the most, or ask for some other ideas. Then I use that as a basis for the next round of generation, esentially “diecting” the music.

While a lot of the output is repetitive, sometimes MuseNet’s output can be very creative. It gave me this feeling when an AI is better at creative tasks, like composing music, than me.

There’s also MuseTree, a custom front-end for MuseNet made by Steven Waterman. I find it more convenient to use than the official tool:
