#1
Spanish
#2
Don’t be afraid to ask for directions (if you can speak spanish)
#3
Get ready to walk!
Learn the local public transportation system (we never did in Dallas)
#4
Be prepared to pay in cash (at least in PV and not CDMX)
#5
Local customs
Hand up to say thank you or no thank you
Always carry extra change with you for tipping, the bathrooms, or bubulubus
Speaking of bathrooms- carry your own toilet paper or wipes
Make friends with everyone!! (You don’t do this in Dallas)
#6
Slow down, relax, and be adaptable
You are moving to Mexico. Whether that is to a town with a lot of Expats like Vallarta, San Miguell, or Ajijic or a small Pueblo with zero Americans- it’s still Mexico- not the US. Don’t expect to just move to Mexico and bring your US life with you. That is asking for headaches.
#7
There is shortcut to understanding Mexico and life in Mexico-
You have to come to Mexico, travel mexico, experience Mexico yourself. There is only so much information and knowledge that you can gain from watching Youtube videos. You have to accidentatly eat a ton of habanero salsa, forget change for the bathroom, miss your bus, have an apartment fire, etc. YOURSELF to begin to understand this amazingly beautiful, complex country that is Mexico.
