USS Cassin Young WW II Fletcher Class Destroyer - Behind-the-Scenes Engine & Boiler Rooms Tour
A rare opportunity to visit the engine and boiler rooms of the USS Cassin Young with expert volunteer guide Chris Bradford. These rooms are way below deck and not generally open to the public or included in normal tours.

The USS Cassin Young is a World War II Fletcher-Class Destroyer. Launched in September of 1943, the Cassin Young served with distinction in the Pacific theater including in the Battle of Leyte Gulf and the Battle of Okinawa. During her service, she was struck twice by Japanese kamikazes, which resulted in over 125 casualties.
After WW II, the Cassin Young was decommissioned, but was reactivated during the Korean War and continued in active service until 1960. She has served as a floating memorial at the Charlestown Navy Yard since 1981. The Navy Yard, also home to the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) is a stop on Boston’s Freedom Trail.
This video is extracted from a video I created for Boston National Historical Park (National Park Service) for inclusion in a ranger-developed app/tour of the USS Cassin Young. The presentation is given by USS Cassin Young Volunteer Chris Bradford.
