GLADIATOR FILM: The Wooden Sword

"The Wooden Sword" is an 18 minute long "mini-epic" about a Batavian boy who is captured by the Romans after the Batavian Revolt in AD 69.
The film shows how he is sold as a slave, trained to become a gladiator and how he learns to survive in the arenas of Noviomagus (Nijmegen) and Vetera (Xanten).
This educational film is specifically made for use in history lessons, and very suitable for students between 11 - 15 years old.

The film was produced by Phalera Filmworks and the Corbulo Foundation in the Netherlands. The producers have aimed to depict the story as historically accurate as possible using accurately reconstructed clothing, weapons and props.
