A German Officer Saved an Orphanage From the SS #short #history #ww2

France, August 1944. Wehrmacht Captain Erich Bauer received SS orders to burn a French Catholic orphanage harboring 47 Jewish children. He refused. He told the SS the building held a typhus outbreak — too dangerous to enter. He posted his own soldiers as guards to keep the SS away. He kept the lie alive for 14 days until Allied forces arrived. All 47 children survived. The SS court-martialed him in 1945. After the war he refused recognition. He said any decent man would have done the same. He died in 1969.
