In Carlo Collodi’s original 1883 novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, he’s not innocent or kind—he’s viol3nt, ungrateful, and often cru3l. Pinocchio is usually imagined as wide-eyed, childlike, and hopeful. But the real Pinocchio? He k1lls his talking cricket, runs from his creator Geppetto, and falls in with criminals. He li3s, ch3ats, and ignores every warning until it’s too late. At one point, he’s hung by bandits and left for dead.
