Windows 98 in 2021 on Modern Hardware

Windows 98 SE Running on Dell Optiplex 780.

Hardware:
Core 2 Quad Processor
10 GB of RAM (limited to 256 mb in BIOS for Windows 98)
Logitech USB Mouse + Apple USB Keyboard

BIOS Setup for Windows 98 Checklist:
- Disable Multi-core setting
- Enable "Install OS" setting to limit the memory to 256 mb
- Disable Virtualization if possible
- Set hard drive into legacy (ATA/IDE) mode

Additional adjustments:
- Unplug unnecessary devices
- Remove memory from the slots if necessary
- Unplug unnecessary hard drives
- Backup all your data! Remember: Windows 98 will remove whatever boot-loader you have

Set Up system for Windows 98 in DOS:
- "Fdisk". Create FAT32 partition for Windows 98. Remember: Windows 98 doesn't support NTFS
- "Format c:" drive
- "sys c:" to install system files
- Install Windows in VM and copy the files to actual hard drive OR if installation works install it using those keys:
D:\WIN98\setup.exe /is /ie /x /id /im
