Fania Salsa (2 Hard Songs) - Justo Betancourt

1 - No Estas En Nada
2 - Kindimbia

Justo Betancourt was born in December 6, 1940 in Matanzas, Cuba, in the neighborhood La Marina. The heir to his family's solid musical tradition, Justo Betancourt was an unparalleled sonero, possessed of a uniquely personal style.
He began his career at a very early age in his native Cuba, where he participated with orchestras and bands, singing at the age of 11 in a group called "Cabezas de Perros" (named for the Beer Brand Cabezas de Perros too). Then he sang with the "Guaguancó Matancero" when he was 16. Later he recorded his firts LPs with "el Conjunto Club".

In the 1960s, he arrived in New York, where he launched a new, brilliant stage of his career, singing vocals for the legendary and inveterate group, La Sonora Matancera, who was already established in the city. Betancourt stayed with the group for five years.
In later years, he was a member of the chorus for various groups, including Eddie Palmieri's and Ray Barretto's. At the end of 1968, he signed on with Fania Records, where he demonstrated his musical experience: he collaborated on a series of successful albums, making a name for himself as the lead singer of the Fania All Stars during a period that would expand the label.
He collaborated on such albums as Tributo a Tito Rodríguez, which featured his song, Cara de Payaso; and 1982s "Leguleya No, which earned extensive radio play.

After almost 8 years in New York, Betancourt moved to Puerto Rico in 1972. It was a move that greatly helped his career, starting with the creation of a new band called Borincuba. Named to reflect the mixture of Puerto Rican and Cuban artists, the band recorded two albums with Betancourt as lead vocals: "Distinto y Diferente" in 1977 and "Presencia!" in 1978, with songs like "Le Puso La Tapa". But the band had some problems, including the departure of Tito Rojas, who went solo for awhile before creating his own band, Conjunto Borincano.

A talented director and vocalist, Justo Betancourts name will forever be imprinted on the popular music scene. Actually, he suffers from diabetes, and he had to be hospitalized in 2008 after fainting in an airport.
