A few years ago we moved from Florida to Georgia and booked a Family Photoshoot to celebrate the big move.
I don’t know what got into me, but I was just so excited to take pictures is a new backdrop that we didn’t have in South Florida, that I really prepped us for the session. I spent weeks looking for and coordinating our outfits like I never had before.
That photoshoot lead to a business I run from home to help other families make the most of their Family Photoshoots and Photographers to serve their clients better with styling.
But, before I started doing this I had lost that part of me during motherhood. I didn’t really feel “stylish” anymore. My clothing choices were much more about comfort and efficiency than anything. And with a constantly changing body, lots of sleepless nights think I gave up for a bit and forgot that part of me.
I didn’t really notice how much I missed dressing up and trying to feel good in my clothes. Things were too busy and it just wasn’t a priority.
But, now that I had a reason that felt good to me, getting ready for our own Family Photoshoots and helping others get ready for theirs…that part of me came alive again.
And the best part is, it was contagious. My kids started caring more about how they dressed, how they felt in what they wore.
The comfy clothes are a must most of the time, of course! And I love just relaxing too. 😉
But, when it comes time for special events like photoshoots and holidays, we love getting dolled up and trying a little harder. My kids love the compliments they get and how the pictures turn out. My daughter loves the skirts that twirl. My teen knows how to put colors and outfits together. And my middle son knows just the right shoes to wear to the photoshoot without me telling him. 🥰 And I feel more like myself again.
And sometimes it feels like it’s silly, or selfish or meaningless to worry about clothes so much. But, to me, when I really think about it…it’s a form of self love. Caring about yourself enough to say I deserve this time, this effort, this attention. And I’m happy that I remembered this part of myself, got the chance to feel that way again and am passing that on to my kids now.😍
