Tbilisi, Georgia

Today is my first full day in Georgia, that is Georgia - the country. And like for most travellers, my adventure begins in the capital city of Tbilisi. Georgia was one of 15 republics of former Soviet Union, so for a person born during Soviet times it feels very relatable and easy to understand.

There are many reasons to come to Georgia. In my case, and that is not even remotely original, the food and the mountains were the initial attractions. But just after a day and half in the country, I found myself completely captivated by the beauty of people around me. I am yet to put my finger on what exactly attracts me so much, but likely it is a combination of facial features, smiles, and kindness.

In a meantime, with only two days dedicated to the city, I am off to explore.

New and old parks, impressive squares, creative monuments, artistic giaphities, surprisingly large street dogs and countless cats - all the things making the town feel alive.

Walking through the narrow streets of old town, one can immediately tell that Tbilisi is centuries old settlement. In many spots, it is easy to see how layers from different epochs and cultures are overlaid and blended together.

Gently rising hills on both sides of the river, the fortress, churches, and other buildings create unique and unmistakable skyline of the city.
