First Ladies Who Were REALLY Strange

The job of the First Lady seems pretty simple, but there’s much more to it than most of us might think. They are always in the public eye, meaning they can’t do much messing up without everyone in the world taking notice. They also have to find their place in a long succession of First Ladies past and have to deal with being guilty by association in the decisions of their husbands! These are some of the women who decided to live by their own codes and didn’t care what the rest of the world thought; these are First Ladies Who Were REALLY STRANGE.

3. Jackie Kennedy
Did you know that Jackie Kennedy stole her sister’s man? No, not John F. Kennedy, but the man that she married years after her husband’s assassination? Apparently, Jackie and her sister Lee were groomed by their mother to serve men; from staying thin to getting their claws in rich men, their mother taught them how to succeed as pleasers. Gore Vidal, an American intellectual and author, has said that Lee seduced JFK numerous times while he was married to Jackie and that Jackie just had to get her revenge. He insists Jackie knew of the infidelity of her husband with her sister, but that she was far too proper to blow up the story and make it into a thing. So what did she do? She eventually married Aristotle Onassis, the Greek shipping magnate, after her own husband’s life was taken by Lee Harvey Oswald. Onassis had been in a relationship with Lee for some time before Jackie even met him, and eventually, the two went behind her back. They even went so far as to invite Lee to the wedding, which she attended, and then down the line, Jackie made it clear how she felt about her relationship with Lee by leaving her nothing in her will. Not really strange, but cold. Very cold.
2. Pat Nixon
This First Lady wasn’t all that weird; in fact, she was pretty darn swell if you ask anybody that knew her. What is strange about her is her choice of men—meaning Richard Nixon. Where she was kind and caring and beloved by many, he was rude, angry, and hardly approachable. She won many awards for just being awesome throughout the years, including Outstanding Homemaker of the Year back in 1953. That was followed by Mother of the Year in 1955, and the Homemakers Forum voted her “nation’s ideal wife” in 1957. Her husband even pushed her name during his campaign for the Presidency, with things like bumper stickers and buttons which read “Pat For First Lady.” It seems he knew his wife was a national icon and well-liked and respected by the masses. Even after Watergate hit, Pat’s reputation wasn’t affected, and while her husband suffered and was ousted from the White House, she was still being looked at with admiration. Fourteen separate times she made Gallup’s poll of top ten “Most Admired Men and Women in the World,” even during the four years following her husband’s leaving office in disgrace.
