Sap to Syrup: Maple Sugaring in Missouri

Maple syrup comes from more places than just Vermont and Canada. The Gihring family is one of the largest maple syrup producers in the state of Missouri. The family talks about why they love maple sugaring and all of the benefits that come from it. Recent efforts by the MU Extension office are encouraging more people to follow the Gihring family’s lead. After all, maple sugaring used to be widespread in Missouri. Even some of the most well-known explorers did it on the banks of the Missouri River before setting off on a famous expedition.
