hydrangea pop— riffs on photos of poppies and a hydrangea taken by my sister (and fine artist) Andrea Way. As always, the drawings/collages were made with MS Paint, and the video was made with the Windows Vista version of MovieMaker. The very cinematic soundtrack (from AudioSwap) is L'Chayim by Gordon Jenkins and his Orchestra from a 1960 album called "Soul of a People"—which I have been mining for video soundtracks. Jenkins was a multitalented musician, songwriter, composer, orchestra leader and arranger (who famously did the arrangements for albums by Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland and Louis Armstrong , as well as making many albums himself with his orchestra—a complex and interesting man who was one of the most important musical figures of the 20th century. Gordon's son, Bruce Jenkins (my favorite SF Chronicle sportswriter) wrote a fascinating book about his dad called "Goodbye: In Search of Gordon Jenkins" (named after one of Gordon's most famous songs). ~ Click on the "X" to close the ad, if any.
