HIDANCE ATORCH DT3010 300V 100A DC Bluetooth Watt Meter Review & Modification pt1

This watt meter looked promising, but misses the mark. The graphing software is about useless and often doesn't connect. It displays cost of electricity saved and CO2 Not a lot of thought was put into this meter.

This meter is sold under the HIDANCE and ATORCH name. It requires almost 20V just to turn on unless powered by an external 4-7.8V source and it requires about 10ma of power. A switching regulator allows it to be self powered up to 300V. this feeds a linear 3V3 regulator that powers the electronics. Bluetooth requires the phone to be near the device as the meter stores no data. Current scale is 60A although the meter goes up to 100A. The data sample rate is over a half second and it seems to do averaging. This makes it impractical for graphing start up power. My fridge draws 120A for less than a second. This meter and software would totally miss that. Cheap and about useless, I have modified it so graphing isn't just stuck on the bottom of the screen with most of my currents being less than 10A. Connectors are just to big to be used with wire sizes common for this size meter. A bare crimp is needed for most wire sizes. I wouldn't put 100A thru this for too long. A fun meter, but not very useful. No way I can see to save any graphing. Software is available to make your PC look like an android phone so maybe there is hope that way.
