The Amathus Archaeological site is found 11 km east from Limassol center and is taken into account together of the foremost important ancient and historical sites of Cyprus. it's also referred to as Ancient Amathunta.

Over the centuries, Amathous was conquered by a variety of conquerors including Persians, Ptolemies, Romans, and Byzantines. At the top, it had been destroyed and abandoned during the 7th century A.D. as a result of the Arab invasions. During the Archaic periods, strong walls were built which further strengthened during the Hellenistic period. Later, the southeast walls were rebuilt while the north and east sections were restored within the face of the Arab threat within the 7th century.
Amathus is found east of Agios Ttychonas next to Limassol in Southern Cyprus and commands a shocking view of the Mediterranean.

It is easy to succeed in since it lies just off the most road in the tourist area. Because the lower part of the ancient city is often seen from the road (the market, the baths, administrative buildings, and hostels), many people don't realize that besides these, the Acropolis of Amathus sites on Capitol Hill above.

This served as a natural fortress and observatory. A temple was built there and it became an area of worship of Aphrodite.

In the archaeological site, impressive discoveries are made: ancient basins, vases, and various other utensils employed by the inhabitants of old.

Amathounta was one of the most important ancient city-kingdom of Cyprus and therefore the town was surrounded by a robust wall.
It was an upscale and highly populated kingdom. it's well-developed agriculture and there have been mines near the northeast of Kalavasos.

Based on mythology, King Kiniras was the founding father of the traditional city and it had been where Theseus left the pregnant Ariadne to be cared for after the battle with the Minotaur. There are various attractions at
the Amathus site including the ruins of the Temple of Aphrodite and therefore the tombs dating back to the first Iron Age of Graeco - Phoenician.

Visitors and tourists can enjoy their walk around the ancient site by viewing rare and delightful treasures that were buried for hundreds of years. The location is really quite large so visitors should expect to spend a minimum of two hours there and it's suggested that they carry with them a hat and an adequate supply of water especially if they're visiting the location during summer months where the weather tends to be extremely popular.
