This video features roughly 20 minutes of my conversation with Rickey. Hear us talk about some amazing things including Rickey's early years of playing guitar and learning music from his Grandfather Shorty Medlocke, who was the inspiration for Ronnie Van Zant writing The Ballad Of Curtis Loew. Rickey still has the Gibson J-45 he learned to play on! We talk about Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins and Gary Rossington from Lynyrd Skynyrd hanging out on Rickey's front porch making music as kids, Rickey seeing Elvis, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and others while growing up in Florida, and how he's still amazed how far he's come from his days playing in garage bands!
I have to add a personal note here: I've purposely chosen Rickey as the first artist I want to use for presenting some audio portions of my interviews. I've spoken with and been around everyone and anyone in this business and Rickey is as great as they come and one of my all time favorite people. With Rickey, it's never an "interview"- you just feel like you're sitting down with a friend talking about music and life. He's an incredible story teller, which makes me want to release this audio even more! Reading his words never quite do as much justice as hearing the man tell it himself. PLUS, he just had a Birthday this past week on February 17th. So it's the perfect time to let the world hear these great stories from Rickey!
