The dazzling, dystopian pattern used to hide battleships

Most camouflage is designed to hide.

Dazzle camouflage did the exact opposite.

During the First World War, Allied ships were covered in bold geometric patterns designed not to conceal them, but to confuse enemy submarine commanders. From zig-zags and stripes to optical illusions painted across entire battleships, Dazzle remains one of the strangest and most iconic camouflage systems ever created.
