We gird up our loins, with a lively hope. Holy Apostles Peter & Paul

We gird up our loins as sojourners through the temptations of this world, and abstain from fleshly lusts, striving according to the example of Jesus Christ, with a lively hope, unto an inheritance incorruptible, Holy Apostles Peter and Paul

Exegesis of several verses from the 1 Peter, which we read during Vespers for the feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul. We include a critique of the lamentable recent baptism of two children by an openly gay couple, by Archbishop Elpidophoros, since it blatantly contradicts one of the verses we examine. 1 Peter 1:3,4,6-9,11,13,17,2:20-21

Partial Timestamps
1:23 – 4:21 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. (1 Peter 1:3)
1:41 – 2:57 Three types of knowledge we need in the Christian life.
4:05 – 6:51 “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” (1
Peter 1:4)
6:51 – 8:00 Why Could the martyrs endure? “Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: 7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: 8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:6-9)
8:00 – 11:05 What am I trying to do to get you ready?
11:09 – 12:20 “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;” (1 Peter 1:13)
12:20 – 14:22 “And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear…” (1 Peter 1:17)
14:22 – 19:32 “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;” (1 Peter 2:11) With application to the well-publicized (and praised!) baptism and “photo-op” that Archbishop Elpidophoros participated in, when two adopted children of two *openly* gay men who are “partners“ were baptized by him, in Greece (07-09-2022)
19:32 – 21:28 “For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:” (1 Peter 2:20-21)
