Warm Audio WA12 vs. GAP Pre73 MKII mic preamp shootout

Hello friends! Here today I have my first mic preamp shootout! This is comparing 2 popular "clones," the Warm Audio WA12 and GAP Pre73 MKII. The Warm Audio is an API 312 type clone and the Pre73 a Neve 1073 type clone. This shootout gives you an overall idea of the type of sound each has and what they sound like on different sources.

Sources in the order they appear:
Spoken vocals: Gives an idea of VO applications
Soft singing vocals: singer songwriter type softer vocals
Louder singing vocals: purposely driven into distortion to hear how they handle distortion
-Snare Drum: approx 2-3' off the snare
-Kick Drum: Placed approx 10-12" in front of front kick head
-Drum Kit OH: approx 3-4' above/in front of kit
-Piano rhythm/fingerstyle: approx 3 feet above and 3 feet back from strings/hammers

Signal Chain:
-Matched Pair of Neumann TLM 103's with capsules aligned as close as possible recording the same source/take for each file you will hear
-One TLM 103 goes to the WA12, the other goes to the GAP Pre73 MKII
-From the preamps they go into the line input on the back of my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 Gen 2
-Recorded into Logic at 24bit/48K

Every time I do one of these I learn a lot about the gear I have and how to make better recording decisions more quickly, I hope you are able to learn something as well.

Let's hear your thoughts in the comments!
