REMITTANCE: नेपालको सबैभन्दा ठूलो शक्ति कि भविष्यको खतरा? | Ideapreneur Nepal

नेपालको economy मा remittance को role कति ठूलो छ? Remittance ले देश बचाइरहेको छ कि dependency बढाइरहेको छ?

Nepal’s remittance economy has reached a record high. Bank reserves are strong, foreign currency inflow is rising, and millions of families depend on money sent home by Nepalis working abroad. But behind these strong numbers, there is a serious question: Is remittance making Nepal stronger, or is it making the country more dependent?

In this video, we explain Nepal’s remittance economy in simple language. Remittance is not just a number in an economic report. It represents the hard work, sacrifice, and sweat of Nepali workers in Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Australia, America, Europe, and many other countries.

According to the script, remittance inflow in the first nine months of fiscal year 2025/26 increased by 39.1% to Rs. 1,659.41 billion, around $11.55 billion. This is a massive support for Nepal’s economy. Remittance helps strengthen foreign exchange reserves, supports banking liquidity, pays for education and healthcare, helps families repay loans, and keeps household consumption stable.

But the bigger issue is how remittance money is being used. Is it going into productive sectors like manufacturing, agriculture processing, exports, innovation, and business creation? Or is it mostly being spent on consumption, imports, land, housing, gold, and education outflow?

In this video, we discuss:

* What a remittance economy means
* How remittance supports Nepali families
* Why remittance is important for Nepal’s foreign exchange reserves
* The connection between remittance, imports, and consumption
* Youth migration and brain drain in Nepal
* The social cost of foreign employment
* Why land and real estate prices rise with remittance money
* How remittance can create policy complacency
* Why Nepal needs productive investment, not only remittance income
* How migrant workers and families can use remittance wisely
* The role of financial literacy, insurance, emergency funds, and diversified investment
* Why returnee migrant entrepreneurship needs proper support
* How Nepal can move from remittance dependence to a productive economy

For households receiving remittance, the key question is: Where is the money going? Is it only being spent on daily consumption, loans, land, and social expenses? Or is some portion being used for savings, skills, education, insurance, business, and long-term investment?

Remittance is like oxygen for Nepal’s economy. It helps the country survive. But oxygen alone does not build muscle. To build a strong economy, Nepal needs productive investment, skills, governance, exports, enterprise, innovation, and trust.
