Will you need a college degree to get promoted?

Thanks to all the awesome discussion on the channel, someone has offered two examples, from personal experience, of professions where you may not need a four-year degree to start, but you MAY need one to move up. This isn't necessarily because getting the degree makes one person any better or more intelligent than the next person--a lot of times, it doesn't. But the truth is, in some professions like finance and nursing, it can be the thing that stands between you and that promotion or the next job. This is something to keep in mind when considering college.

What I didn't go into, and I will in a future video, is that there is unspoken subtext here. There are already reasons why an employer may pay you less, or turn you down for a management position (i.e. race, or gender, etc.), whether consciously or subconsciously. It's a fact that there is a wage gap. We've all seen the stories, for example, of professionals and entrepreneurs of certain demographics having to go above and beyond everyone else just to prove themselves worthy of recognition, investment, compensation, etc. So having that extra credential can help to narrow the gap (even if it is unfair that some people have to work harder than others to get to the same place).
