In full: James Cleverly faces questions amid Tory backlash on record net migration figures
James Cleverly faces Home Office questions in the House of Commons at 2.30pm amid a Tory backlash over record net migration figures.
The government faces growing pressure to take fresh action to curb legal migration levels after official figures published last week revealed a new peak of 745,000 had been hit in 2022.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak earlier praised a student visa scheme which allows high achievers from around the world to come to the UK with their families for two years to “explore, work, study, invent”.
Kemi Badenoch said the Government is taking the new net migration record high “very seriously” and there is “a lot of work to be done” to get the numbers down.
