Dutch refuse to reveal Christian Pulisic game plan ahead of USA clash

Netherlands players are refusing to reveal how they will deal with USA star Christian Pulisic ahead of their FIFA World Cup last-16 game on Saturday.

The American forward suffered an abdominal injury in netting the only goal in the USA's 1-0 win over Iran on Tuesday, a victory which saw them finish second in Group B and seal a place in the first knockout game of the World Cup.

Chelsea player Pulisic required several minutes of treatment on and off the pitch after clashing with Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand shortly before half-time as he tapped in a headed cross from Sergino Dest.

But despite missing the second half and being taken to hospital with a suspected pelvic contusion, Pulisic posted on social media on Wednesday that he would "be ready Saturday, don't worry".

The Netherlands finished top of Group A after 2-0 wins over hosts Qatar and Senegal and a 1-1 draw with Ecuador - with forward Cody Gakpo scoring in each game - but face a USA side who have yet to concede from open play at Qatar 2022.

Both teams failed to qualify for the tournament in Russia four years ago, prior to which the Netherlands finished runners-up in 2010 and achieved third place in 2014.

The USA reached the Round of 16 in 2010 and 2014 - losing to Ghana and Belgium - and last advanced to the quarter-finals in 2002.
