Fetu Afahye

“Afa hye” literally means “put on”.

It is a religious harvest festival.

Bakatue and Akwanbo are all merged in the celebration of the Fetu Afahye

Nana Tabir Shrine; the god that heads the 77 gods of Oguaa. Shrine is located in the male slave dungeon of the Cape Coast Castle. Here the first purification rites are performed.

State purification is held at Patapram

The Fetu Afahye procession is made up of three main sections: 7 Asafo companies, about 30 sub chiefs who are members of the Oguaa Traditional council and the Omanhen with his entourage. Procession takes about 4 hours to complete at a snails pace and covers a distance of about one mile.
The turnout of the Asafo companies affords them the chance to show their numerical strength and to outdoor their new captains(Asafohene)

Bentsir Asafo Company No 1 takes the lead during the procession followed by the rest of the Asafo Companies.

Standard bearers adroitly display company flags to the music of Asafo drums and gongs. They also parade their company emblems and other traditional insignia which serve as a reminder of exploits by the Asafo company in times past. These also serve as identification tools for the various Asafo companies
