Gluten Free General Tso’s Chicken 🍗🔥
Let me show you how I make the perfect General Tso’s chicken for dinner. Better than takeout. And completely gluten free.
Full recipe below 👇 — serves 4
Ingredients:
For the Chicken:
2 lbs chicken thighs trimmed and cut into 1 inch pieces
½ cup cornstarch
1 teaspoon of MSG
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of black pepper
General Tso’s Sauce:
½ cup cold water
5 tablespoons low sodium GF soy sauce or tamari
3 tablespoons rice vinegar
1½ tablespoons hoisin sauce — check label for GF
2 tablespoons fresh ginger minced — from a 2 inch piece
3 cloves garlic minced or grated
½ tsp red pepper flakes or to taste
4 tablespoons granulated sugar
1½ tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon of MSG
Method:
Step 1 — Cut chicken thighs into 1 inch pieces.
Step 2 — Toss chicken in batches with cornstarch, MSG, salt, pepper.
Step 3 — Whisk all sauce ingredients together in a separate bowl before you start cooking.
Step 4 — Preheat your skillet with oil over medium high heat until shimmering. Cook chicken in 2-3 batches — never crowd the pan.
Step 5 — Add garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes to the same pan over medium heat. Sauté for exactly 30 seconds until fragrant.
Step 6 — Pour sauce into the skillet and bring to a simmer while stirring continuously.
Step 7 — Add chicken back to the pan and toss until every piece is fully coated in the sauce.
Save this and never order takeout again 👇
