propeller propulsion bike
Using the propeller on a combustion engine has the benefit to avoid complicated mechanical transmission mechanisms. We simply mount the propeller directly on the drive shaft of the motor. Even though the efficiency of the propeller propulsion is less than the friction based transmissions, the fuel consumption was still very low. We measured ~2.3 l / 100 km (depending on the wind:)). This is due to the fact that motor operates mostly in the optimal regime (~3000rpm). With this 3 HP Tomos engine we could achieve about 50-60 km/h top speed.
