Don’t think that a ryokan is just a hotel that looks Japanese. It’s an unforgettable experience that you can only get in Japan. Which is why it was on top of my list when I started planning this trip.

The Hiiragiya ryokan in Kyoto has been in the same family for 200 years and is one of the most popular places in Japan for visitors and celebrities (Charlie Chaplin, Elizabeth Taylor) that want to experience a traditional Japanese inn.
