Eurasian Curlew Feeding in the Snow with Black-Headed Gulls Stealing from Curlew

A mixture of video and photos of a large flock of curlew feeding in the snow covered fields over Middleton near Ilkley.

As if that wasn't exciting enough, some black-headed gulls were exhibiting some kleptoparasitic behaviour, occasionally robbing the curlews of any worms they managed to bring up. Not unlike the behaviour displayed on Wild Isles with the Farne Island puffins! With smaller fish moving to deeper water, a lack of insects and the ground covered in snow, days like these offer up very slim pickings for these gulls. While the large number of curlews in this flock hopefully meant only the odd curlew lost its catch every now and then.
