eXtremeRate Game Boy Color IPS Ready Shell
Update 2022-05-21 There is a new version on this shell with some minor improvements to the IPS kit compatibility. See my video here: https://youtu.be/5mfbSjMLok4
While my previous experience with their old shell design was less than stellar, it was still largely positive. Thankfully, eXtremeRate still took feedback and turned around to make an even better shell!

TL;DW, the fit is significantly improved, the finish is much smoother (though because I chose a different finish this time, it's not completely a fair comparison), and this shell even supports some IPS kits out of the box. The new buttons are a nice improvement between the fit and feel of the dpad and a and b buttons but also the smooth action of the power switch, actual transparent IR window, and cool new design for start and select buttons make even just the buttons pretty compelling.
Unfortunately, the shell is not without flaws though. It looks like development started on this shell before the larger, Q5 based IPS kits came out and this shell is not compatible without a bit of trimming. Still though, OEM shells require trimming too so it's not that big of a deal. At about $23 USD a pop though (at the time of this video, the old shell is $20 and new is $23), the shells are a bit pricier than alternatives but if you like the finishes eXtremeRate offers, it's a pretty easy sell.
Overall verdict? You really can't go wrong with this shell, especially if you like the finishes it is offered in.
Notable mention -- there are no Nintendo logos anywhere on this thing. The shells are completely smooth where there would normally be a "Nintendo" or "Game Boy" emblem and it looks great. I'm very pleased with this decision and I think more shells need to be made like this. The logos are NOT missed.
