A DIETITIAN'S Thoughts on FREELEE the Banana Girl | Raw Till 4 | What I Eat in a Day

In this episode of Abbey's Kitchen, Abbey loves sharing her What I Eat in Day videos, but today Abbey has decided to take a closer look at the diet of one of YouTube's infamous stars known as Freelee The Banana Girl. Abbey knows this girl is totally whack. Abbey even tried one of her smoothies and it was just bananas. That was it. Abbey's going to now look at what else this woman is eating all day.

Let's do this.

Freelee is now starting with breakfast. Already she's having a breakfast that is basically $12 worth of fruit. Abbey believes it would be pretty impossible to sustain this diet with a whole family, if it costs $12/meal/person. Freelee is adding to the blender mixed berries and orange juice. In the corner of the screen, Freelee is also doing some squats. Abbey can't even focuse on what she's eating because of her squatting sesh in the corner. Also, she's eating a lot of oranges. It looks like she's squeezed an entire orange tree just for her breakfast. Freelee has to drink out of the blender or a vase because there is no glass big enough… Abbey believes that if your breakfast doesn't fit into a normal glass, you've probably gone overboard.

Now it's lunch time, and Freelee is having nine bananas for a fast lunch. Abbey thinks that lunch is the sketchiest lunch. Nine brown bananas sitting on a hot Australian car seat. Very sad meal. Freelee also calls eating nine bananas fast food, but for most people eating nine bananas would not be easy. Yes bananas are nutritious but nine of them?? That has over a 100grams of sugar right there.

Now she's making another smoothie. Freelee is making it with nine pears. All of those pears looks like something you would serve at a banquet. It's way too many. Freelee calls this a satisfying fruit, and Abbey believes it is, because of all the pears. It also does not look appetizing, it looks like pulpy water to Abbey. Abbey is getting very sick of watching her eat smoothies.

Freelee's smoothies are not nutritionally balanced. They are just carbs. It takes the pleasure out of eating. For that reason they are not as emotionally satiating. Also these smoothies are JUST sugar. Abbey recommends adding a spoonful of peanut butter, some oats, or chickpeas will help to slow down the absorption so you can actually have a much better blood sugar response.

Now it's dinner time and Freelee is eating lettuce wrap jackfruit. Abbey would be hella hungry after a meal like this. There's no protein or fat in this diet. Based on this day of eating, Abbey can clearly see that this day reflects her food philosophy. Watching this Abbey sees three main red flags.

Number one: it's really high in calories and completely unbalanced. We're looking at 4500 calories. For most women that's a lot of calories and it's just sugar. Definitely missing out on nutrition.

Number two: Freelee is giving vegans the wrong idea on how to do veganism in a healthy and nourishing way. Freelee has NO plant-based protein in her diet. That's asking for a lot of nutritional deficiencies.

Number three: Whenever Abbey sees something that is super restrictive like Freelee's diet, Abbey gets nervous about disordered eating behaviours and habits. For someone who is already at risk of disordered eating, this video may be a huge trigger because it's so unbearably restrictive. Abbey sees what Freelee's doing is being completely irresponsible and unsafe.
