My CQHAM TB-BOX Field Pack

The CQHAM TB-BOX is a unique way to rejuvenate your operating style with the ever popular Icom IC-817 to make make it ultra portable. This creative field pack is available as a complete set and includes the charger, rechargeable batteries, manual antenna tuner, connecting cables and beautiful, genuine leather carry bag to carry it all. The companion TB-BOX attaches magnetically and securely to the 817. What a genial idea! What I really like is that the telescopic whip antenna just screws onto the top of the attached antenna tuner box. One of the drawbacks with the 817 is that there is no internal antenna tuner. Now, there is a solution. The problem with no antenna tuner with a portable whip atenna attachment-- is solved! With the CQHAM TB-BOX, the 817, together with a trailing counterpoise, is a compact field pack that can even be worn while operating. The only drawback with this setup is that there is no direct way to charge the internal batteries inside the TB-BOX, without removing the unit. Still, very clever and it works!
