Portovenere is famous for the incredible beauty of its historic center and the fortress overlooking the gulf, and of course for its beautiful coastline, beach, restaurants, bars, venues, Mediterranean perfumes, and flavors. The symbol of the city of Portovenere is the Church of San Pietro, located on the cliff of the rocky peninsula. This church is one of the main attractions of the city.

Portovenere's historic center is slightly elevated compared to the port area and preserves evidence of its ancient past. Crossing the walls of the historic center of Portovenere you reach the highest point where the castle is located: from here you enter the town through the medieval gate and the tower.

Portovenere is really close to Cinque Terre and La Spezia, with an amazing landscape!. You can enjoy the sea views, excellent gastronomy and an old town rich with historical buildings.

In this video I will take you to visit the old town of Portovenere, the iconic San Pietro ("St. Peter") Church, Grotta di Lord Byron, San Lorenzo Church, and Doria Castle where we will enjoy an amazing panoramic view of Portovenere.

This is one of my favorite towns to visit in Liguria. You can get to Portovenere by car (I do not recommend it during the summer because of the lack of parking), by bus, or by ferry boat (as I did in this video). You can also do a private excursion.
